Community Police Academy

Although the program is offered at no cost, applicants must be a resident of Fauquier County, be at least 21 years old, pass a background check, be willing to attend a seven-week curriculum with graduation on the 8th week and meeting one evening each week. Participants are simply asked to commit to 10 hours of annual volunteer service to WPD post-graduation. Participants who are selected from this competitive application process will have the unique opportunity to hear directly from subject matter experts in local law enforcement. Once the academy class of 15 (maximum) is full, the enrollment process will be closed and all remaining students will be placed on a waiting list. If vacancies occur they will be filled in the order the applications were received.

The academy will meet on Tuesday evenings from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm., for a seven-week period with graduation on the eighth-week except, first class will be on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022.

This course will help you gain a better understanding of your Warrenton Police Department (WPD). The members of the WPD will share their knowledge and experience with you through presentations, demonstrations, displays and hands-on activities.

Classes are a combination of presentations and interactive activities. Class topics will include accreditation, public information and community engagement, the volunteer program, court services, domestic violence, criminal investigations, crime analyst, patrol operations, crisis intervention, record keeping, training program, and much more.

WHEN: May 11th – June 28th, 2022. Accepting applications Now through March 17th, 2022.

WHERE: Warrenton Police Department in the Training Room at 333 Carriage House Lane, Warrenton, Virginia 20186. Not a training course to become a sworn police officer.

WHAT: The curriculum covers the core elements that are essential for participants to gain a greater understanding of police operations. As a result of their participation, residents become more familiar with the Warrenton Police Department and its daily operations. The Police Department is simultaneously able to acquire a greater understanding of the views and concerns of the community through an enhanced relationship with the public.
